Intel is preparing the debut of the 13th generation Core processorsbelonging to the family Raptor Lake. Like the Alder Lake predecessors, these models will adopt a hybrid type architecture, which combines higher performance performance cores with others of the Efficient type, which therefore offer a better balance between energy efficiency and performance.
The Raptor Lake architecture will also be adopted for processors intended for notebook systems: let’s talk about the declensions indicated with the suffix HXtherefore the CPUs destined for the most powerful desktop replacement systems used for gaming systems or as mobile workstations.

The first benchmarks appeared online of one of these processors, the model Core i5-13600HX for which a total number of 14 cores and 20 processable threads is reported: we obtain a presence of 6 Performance type cores, all with HyperThreading, combined with 8 Efficient type cores. However, there is a lack of indications on clock frequencies, which should be above 4 GHz but far from the 5GHz threshold.
In comparison with the 12th generation models with Alder Lake architecture of the Core i5 series we highlight how the number of core performances is increased, passing from 4 to 6, while that of the core efficiencies remains unchanged. A good overall performance increase should be obtained, especially in the areas most dependent on the number of cores.
It will take some time before we see the first notebooks based on these processors on the market; generally the launch of new platforms for notebook systems takes place in January, to coincide with the CES of Las Vegas: the first month of 2023 could therefore be the one chosen by Intel and partners for the presentation of the new desktop replacement notebooks based on 13th generation CPU Core.
