Qualification

At least B.E./M.Sc./MCA or equivalent degree in Physics / Computer Science or a related field with 10 years’ experience or M.E. with 8 years’ experience or Ph.D. with 6 years’ experience in high level research / development activity of relevance to IUCAA in Physics / Astronomy / Astrophysics or a related field.

Job
Responsibilities

i. The Inter-University Centre for Astronomy and Astrophysics (IUCAA) is the key science stakeholder of the prestigious LIGO-India mega-science project and is responsible for the entire data computing facilities and its operation. ii. IUCAA is looking for talented personnel to fill several permanent Scientific and Technical positions as big data scientists to design and implement High Performance/Throughput Computing infrastructure and allied analysis strategies which would be optimum in the context of gravitational wave detectors iii. These positions carry tenure and benefits of any central government employees in India. iv. There is flexibility in the grades offered so as to be commensurate with the qualifications and work experience. v. Gravitational Wave research is computationally intensive. Even though the international collaboration has built large state of the art computing facilities, analysis of data and numerical relativity simulations are currently computationally limited.

Ph. D. in Physics / Electronics / Instrumentation / Optical engineering/ nano Fabrication / other related areas. Candidates who have submitted/ defended their PhD thesis and are waiting for final degree can also apply. Or, ME/ M. Tech in Physics / Electronics / Instrumentation / Optical engineering/ other related areas with minimum three years’ experience and having at-least one original research paper in SCI journals. Desirable experience in C, C++, Python, Matlab/ Mathematica / VHDL/ LabVIEW/ Solidworks / COMSOL/ ANSYS/ digital & analog electronics/ optics/ fabrication will be useful.

Qualification

M. Sc. or M. Tech in Physics / Electronics / Instrumentation / Optical engineering/ other related areas with minimum 60% marks. As per DST’s requirement (Ref. DST OM No – SR/S9/Z-08/2018 dated January 30, 2019) the candidate must have CSIR or UGC NET-JRF / NET-LS/ GATE/ INAT/ JEST. Final year students awaiting for results can also apply. Desirable experience in any of the programming languages like C, C++, Python, Matlab, Mathematica / VHDL/ LabVIEW will be useful. Final year students awaiting for results can also apply. The selected JRF candidates will receive a monthly fellowship of Rs. 31,000 + HRA (HRA will be provided only if he/she does not avail IUCAA’s accommodation). Depending on performance in first two years, the candidate can be promoted to Senior Research

Pay
Scale

Rs. 35,000 + HRA per month. The finally offered candidate can start to work immediately after the selection or later depending on the pandemic situation / mutually agreeable date. The total tenure of the position is for three years, renewable annually based on performance.
