On January 1st it will be possible to add the new Lego Art set with Hokusai: The Great Wave (31208) sold at the price of 99.99 euros. Dimensional wall art is a hobby project Lego for adults consisting of 1,810 pieces measuring 52 cm in height and 39 cm in width, with six canvas bases, two hooks, a brick separator and a decorative tile with Hokusai’s signature. The reproduction of the Japanese artwork is proposed in a 3D version to bring out the wave. The brick company pays homage to one of the most famous and recognizable Japanese works by giving lovers of Japanese art and culture the opportunity to immerse themselves in a relaxing construction. Since Katsushika Hokusai created the ukiyo-e woodblock print in the 1830s – the first and most famous work of the series entitled Thirty-six views of Mount Fuji – the image has graced museum walls, inspired music, and been recreated as street art and merchandise around the world.
“We are thrilled that fans of Japanese art and culture have the opportunity to immerse themselves in the relaxing project of recreating the iconic Great Wave, immortalized in a Lego Art set“, said Annemette Baaskjær Nielsen, designer of Lego, and continued: “This set offers fans so many ways to relax. Not only immersing himself in the building process, but also in the artwork and its composition. And simultaneously piquing interest in Hokusai’s instantly recognizable original and its rich history spanning nearly two hundred years.”.
The official site also reports an interesting multimedia bonus, the audio track: “Show everyone your passion for art” reads, “Rebuild Hokusai’s Great Wave with multiple layers of LEGO bricks to reproduce a famous masterpiece of dimensional art that is bold and dramatic at the same time. As you build this unique home decoration, you can scan the QR code and listen to a specially designed QR code audio track to heighten the emotional impact of the project.”
