OPINION:
Where is that elusive “October surprise” we hear about just before every congressional or general election? None of the article in Friday’s Washington Times seemed to meet the October surprise threshold. However, several stories did contain indications the political left is not doing so well. That is probably an October surprise for the left, which seems to have been unable to grasp reality since Jan. 21, 2021.
The big-news ticket should probably have been the unanimous Jan. 6 committee vote to subpoena former President Trump (“Jan. 6 committee subpoenas Trump, demands testimony and documents in final power play,” Web, Oct. 13). I spent a few moments watching the committee’s “last” hearing on Thursday — you know, the last one since the previous last one, when they force (by subpoena) former President Trump to sit before them. They were all very official looking as they read their prepared comments before voting in unanimity.
Oh, well, if Joe Biden had just told the progressives to sit in the corner and be quiet on Inauguration Day, he wouldn’t have had to wreck the U.S. oil industry and the supply chain, create the worst inflation in four decades or destroy America’s standing in the world. If he had told them that, they probably wouldn’t now be looking at losing the House and possibly the Senate. Sadly, his goal as president seems to be merely to do the opposite of former President Trump.
Maybe that is the “real” October surprise this election cycle: The left gets their way and gets left out.
