LightCut is a mind-blowing video editor – our test

Our smartphones they are the daily travel companions who accompany us in various activities. They have evolved so much in recent years that they are currently often the only solution we carry with us for taking pictures and recording video. This is especially true for the top of the range, for which manufacturers invest significant efforts in photography.

In addition to shooting and video recording, a very important aspect is the ability to customize your shots and videos. Today in the Android world we find a huge series of apps, even from third parties, which are offered as photo and video editor. In the last few days we have tried LightCutan app that positively surprised us in several respects.

The title of this paragraph summarizes our test. LightCut really surprised usin a context where photo and video editors on Android, especially if from third parties, all offer the same functionality, often even limited to advertisements and subscriptions.

LightCut however is different. On first launch the app will ask for some permits essential for its operation: access the position to possibly correlate information on the position with video editing (useful if you use drones or action cameras equipped with GPS connectivity), access the nearby devices in case you access the video recording functionality through the app and access the internal memory of the device clearly to personalize photos and videos.

After the first start you begin to discover the various potentials of LightCut, which are really many. Let’s take a look at the most interesting ones if you intend to personalize a video recorded with your smartphone, or in any case a video present in your phone’s internal memory:

• template, is the option that allows you to choose a general template for the entire video. There are so many templates available. Basically it is a theme, which includes a filter and any other graphic elements, which are superimposed on the video itself.
• Options to customize the resolution and the frame rate of the entire video.
• Option to apply filters specific to the entire video.
• Option for cut the video in multiple points, it can handle the video frame by frame.
• Addition of text elements. The text elements are then customizable in terms of font, size, color and position within the video.
• Once the export of the video is complete it will be possible to save the project, to possibly modify it with LightCut in the future, e share it quickly with all installed apps.

These that we have just seen are the most interesting options in terms of video customization, which is the main function of the app, which was born precisely as a video editor.

But be careful because a large number of customizations are also available to animate the own photos: the templates we talked about before can in fact also be applied to images, with the result of obtaining a short video according to different styles. The same option is also available by selecting multiple photos, with the result of obtaining one slideshow neat and personalized.

The thing that most surprised us about LightCut is the great number of options and customizations, some of which are based on artificial intelligence algorithms for the automatic application of templates to personal videos, coupled to the absence of limits for the user, also in terms of subscription.

The use we expect more sensible for such an app it is certainly the one aimed at publishing content on social. On the other hand LightCut might as well be a great solution for those who intend to personalize their videos from their smartphone, without resorting to the use of software typically designed for PCs.

As we mentioned above, LightCut is totally free for Android devices.

In its use we have not seen advertisements, another point in favor of the app.
