MemTest86 will tell us which DRAM module and chip are causing problems on our PC

PassMark Software has announced the arrival of a “new era for memory testing“. The next version of MemTest86debuting probably in two to three weeks, will further refine the weapons regarding the DRAM diagnosticsi.e. the identification of malfunctioning modules That causes crashes and errors system.

When a PC suddenly starts restarting, the causes can be many but often the origin of everything is in DRAM memories. MemTest86 is an invaluable tool for verifying module operation, but often figuring out which module is causing problems is a constant “remove and insert”, change slots and so on. In short, by testing the modules individually you can identify the malfunctioning one.

In case the PC is able to complete the tasks with all memory modules installed, MemTest86 can verify them without requiring selective removal. In that case, with the next version, the program will be able to return visual information not only of which module is faulty in the memory pool, but also which is the problematic chip within the single module.

According to PassMark, this new feature it will only work with select DDR5 systems. In the case of the screenshot published we see the example of a quartet of Crucial DDR5-4800 memories, with the DIMM_B1 and the U6 chip representing the element of instability. With this information, users can simply purchase an identical DIMM and replace it, or try removing and replacing the problem chipwithout changing the entire form.
