Meta investigated in Milan for 870 million of unpaid VAT

Meta in the sights of the Milan prosecutor’s office, who opened a file for omitted payment of VAT by the parent company Facebook, Instagram and Whatsapp for around 870 million euros. The figures were formalized by the assessments of the economic-financial police unit of the Guardia di Finanza of Milan, based on the calculations on the alleged failure to submit the value added tax return by the digital giant for the years from 2015 to 2021.

The investigation, as reported Daily factwas initiated by the European Public Prosecutor’s Office and is based on the assumption that also the data provided to the company have a value, since they are monetized in the form of advertising investments. Hence the accusation of having omitted the VAT. The investigation passed under the jurisdiction of the Milan prosecutor’s office. The file is in the hands of the prosecutor Tiziana Siciliano and the prosecutor Giovanni Polizzi of the Milan prosecutor’s office led by Marcello Viola. There are currently no suspects.
