Minions 2 – How Gru becomes super bad tells the need to be accepted

The deranged Minions arrive punctually to steal the show from them, but this time the Illumination beats lands already trodden successfully by others, recalling recent films such as Red Disney – yes, even the Minions will come to bring out their own ferocious inner animal – but also Kung Fu Panda by Dreamworks. The acupuncturist who teaches kung-fu to the Minions is a curious new entry which remains impressed. As for Gru, let’s follow his coming of age of a willing and determined child to start a band of his own, with the perennial need to be accepted. From a technical point of view it was not an easy test for the TV showman who for twelve years has been giving voice to the character of Gru to find the right tone. Saving himself from the risk of a shrill, childish, caricatured voice, Max Giusti does a psychological job rather than a dubbing one: to find a voice in line with a character about to find his way he had to go and track down his memories as a child. “It took me two full days to find the right voice. At the beginning I couldn’t, with the dubbing director Marco Guadagno we struggled twice as much, throwing away the work of the first days. The turning point came when I started thinking like a kid, there the voice of little Gru was unlocked. A work of technical transformation and subtraction, in which I tried to disappear inside the character, to remove rather than add. In the end I was so happy with the result that I sent my video to Chris Meledandri who approved it“.
