Over the past few days, some repairs have been made to a quick release system (quick disconnect) which serves to bring liquid hydrogen to the tank of the main stage. A cryogenic test was performed on the launch pad on 21 September (successfully completed) to determine whether the repairs to the leak detected in early September had been effective. Also in this case some problems have been detected which would seem not to cause excessive concern for the NASA.
NASA SLS and Artemis I: launch for September 27?
As reported on the official mission blogthe launch of the big space rocket remains scheduled for 27 September despite the fact that one is now worrying about the approach of one tropical stormappointed Ian, which could hit Florida these days. It is therefore not only a question of safeguarding the rocket and the $ 4 billion mission, but also all the personnel who work there.
Regarding the FTS (Flight Termination System) of NASA SLS, the agency managed to obtain an extension of validity from the Space Force that monitors and the green light for the launches of the Eastern Range. This means that at least part of the problems have been resolved for a possible launch on September 27 (and in the case also for the window of October 2). There are therefore only a few hours before we know if the launch will actually take place by the end of September or will have to be postponed at least to the beginning of October (or beyond).
