2022 was an incredibly rich year for the world of video games. Nintendo, Sony and Microsoft have raised the bar in terms of the general quality of the titles released. Among these, Elden Ring and have certainly stood out God of War: Ragnarokwho on December 8th will compete for the coveted Game of the Year award at The Game Awards, an award ceremony held every year and which is now seen as the Oscar of video games. Among the different categories, many have noticed how much Nintendo titles have been a bit snubbedfor example with solo Xenoblade Chronicles 3 the main Game of the Year nomination; even in other categories, where the titles of the Kyoto house would have deserved more, they preferred games that were good, but not excellent, such as Stray or A Plague Tale: Requiem.

This year perhaps Nintendo will not have had a big shot (as the next chapter of The Legend of Zelda) to be nominated, but it is clear that in general most of the titles in its 2022 catalog deserved to receive more nominations. Also, without a doubt, if there should be an award dedicated to the best company in the gaming industry this year Nintendo would win hands downgiven the constant quality offered throughout 2022.

Sony, despite the arrival of two weight exclusives like God of War: Ragnarok And Horizon: Forbidden West, according to the latest data, has lost two million users: the renewal of its online service with PS Plus Premium, apparently, has not convinced many players. Furthermore, the move ofPlayStation 5 price increase – which is still not easy to find – was not at all appreciated by the public. Microsoft for its part continues to focus on the service of Game Pass, which is getting stronger and more loved, but, apart from that, has not yet shown the heavy artillery made of the exclusives it has been heralding for years. The postponement to 2023 of the expected Starfield, Bethesda’s first major Xbox exclusive, didn’t help either. In all of this, Nintendo has instead continued to do what it has always done best: create quality games for every taste.

Nintendo and the philosophy of quality first

Nintendo Switch is still a brilliant console, but that from a graphic point of view begins to feel the weight of his almost six years of life, especially when compared to the next gen consoles of the two direct competitors. Despite this, 2022 has been a year during which the quality of the titles offered by Nintendo has never wavered. The exclusive Switch releases have all been top-notch, with some games even representing excellence within their genre.
