Though his name isn’t mentioned often, OM Digital Solutions (ex-division imaging of Olympus sold to JIP) continues to try to carry on its market strategy by renewing the fleet of camera bodies and lenses over the months. A difficult challenge where even more companies “solid” such as Sony, Canon and Nikon struggle but that needs to diversify the market to the benefit of users (and technological competition in general).

In these days the Japanese company has announced the availability of new firmware for various camera bodies so as to allow support for the new lens M.Zuiko Digital ED 90mm F3.5 Macro IS PRO which expands the choice (even if its availability is not yet effective). Users will thus be immediately ready to use the new optics once available for purchase. Here’s what you need to know.
The new firmwares of OM Digital Solutions
As reported by OM Digital Solutions in the press release, we read that the new firmware is available for E-M1 Mark II, E-M1 Mark III, E-M5 Mark III, E-M1X and OM-5. If you have the OM-1 (manufacturer’s flagship solution) updated to version 1.3, there will be no need to download any firmware to support the new lens M.Zuiko Digital ED 90mm F3.5 Macro IS PRO.
This perspective was announced in the Road map of September 2022 but, as written, it is not yet officially available. The fact that the company is updating the camera bodies to support it should be a good sign that the release is near. Features report a focal length of 90mm equivalent to 180mm in the 35mm format. The magnification ratio is 2:1 on MQT.

Being a professional grade solution OM Digital Solutions designed a lens body that can withstand humidity and dust with IP53 certification. Full features will be released once the lens is actually available.
For updating the firmware of the machine bodies involved you can follow the simple guide in Italian present on the official website. In general it is necessary to download the OM Workspace software in the most recent version available (or update the previously installed one). The camera will need to be connected via USB cable. At that point you can choose “room” then “update” to search for the latest firmware. You will have to follow the instructions until the installation is complete.
