Privacy Sandbox it was presented last year by Google and today it has finally arrived, as announced on his blog. It is currently a beta version and is gradually being activated on the devices of predisposed users, who will receive a notification to this effect.

It is a step forward in the world of advertising that will allow users to have their privacy guaranteed and at the same time developers to earn through advertising in apps that are still targeted to the end user. This system will be available in Settings > Privacy > Advertising (or similar menu depending on manufacturer) and will only be available to Android 13 users. This system will not associate a cross-app ID with users, but will process interests based on apps installed and there it will keep safe inside your device.

This system, combined with the fact that developers will have to register with their documents in order to take advantage of this new Privacy Sandbox, will allow users not to be tracked too aggressively.

The tracking categories then they seem generic enough not to denote too detailed tracking. Let’s talk for example about Art & Entertainment, Dance, Local News, Movies, Outdoors or Stocks.

Individual apps will then be able to generate new interests based on usage, but always saved locally and anonymized so that they can also be “read” by other apps. The end user will be able to block every single “unwanted” interest or delete the content of the Privacy Sandbox in one fell swoop.
