It was IFA 2022 when, walking around one of the many exhibition halls, I hear a lot of confusion and tremendous beatings. I get closer to understand what was happening and I see a boy holding a huge claw hammer intent on forcefully hitting a smartphone. It was about PanzerGlassa company founded in 2013 and known in other markets for its protective glasses for mobile phones and relatively recently it has also arrived in Italy. Since that first, fortuitous meeting, a few months have passed and in this period we have started using PanzerGlass products on various devices with great satisfaction.
We have therefore decided to bring you dedicated content on the site in collaboration with the company to introduce you to this reality. In fact, since October, on my iPhone 14 Pro, I have applied a Privacy protective glass which offers some very interesting features.
In fact, in addition to a truly excellent protection that prevents the screen from being seen from the sides (characteristic of Privacy glasses), all PanzerGlass protective glasses have these peculiar characteristics:
- Shock resistant (including hammering, see video)
- Resistant to drops, especially they are tested to withstand side and corner impacts (obviously they are not indestructible)
- Excellent oleophobic treatment (having tried it for months we can also give you our very positive feedback)
- Excellent smoothness of the glass (being glass and not plastic/silicone the difference is remarkable
- Glass treatment that does not affect brightness (Privacy exception for obvious reasons)
- Extreme flexibility of the glass
- Antibacterial glass treatment that combines with the spray and liquid in the package that eliminates bacteria
- Depending on the model, the glass can be Privacy, anti-reflection, anti-blue light or more
These features place PanzerGlass protectors at the top end of the market as they are not films but real glasses with very specific characteristics. Obviously all the products are made specifically for the smartphones they have to protect and, in some cases, have areas with different surfaces to allow the use of some functions such as, for example, the fingerprint sensor under the screen or the various 3D sensors.
In the video we wanted to really test the resistance of the glass without limiting ourselves in the try to smash the iPhone with the hammer or trying to break glass by bending it. In short, a real test that allowed us to better understand the quality of these protections.
However, PanzerGlass is not just glass for displays, but it also has a series of very interesting accessories to protect smartphone cameras. In particular, we mounted the glass for the rear optics of the iPhone 14 Pro and, after about a week of use, I can be satisfied with the protection and rest assured to place the smartphone anywhere, not caring about any scratches on the lens cover glasses.
In fact, it should be remembered that even the glasses of the cameras, in the event of a fall, can break and the cost of repair is very high, especially on the iPhone 14 Pro. It may therefore make sense to evaluate complete protection if, like me, you are quite “careless” and use your smartphone in any condition with a high risk of falling.
The rigid plastic cover is also well made (it also exists with a rear glass which should prevent the plastic from yellowing in the long run) with MagSafe even if I don’t have any particular feedback to give you: it does exactly what it should and protects the smartphone but the good thing is that it is very oleophobic, it doesn’t get dirty, it doesn’t attract dust or lint and it feels very robust. I haven’t had the chance to test it in the field yet because, fortunately, the smartphone hasn’t dropped yet (and luckily ed).
PanzerGlass is also expanding its range of protections by also including Smartwatches and Foldables such as Fold 4 and Flip 4 or Tablets. We will try these slightly more particular solutions shortly to understand their effectiveness and duration over time. For now, however, we are very satisfied with the brand and the only obstacle could be represented by the sale price.
Last positive note on the method of application of these glasses: not only is the whole kit present in the package, but for some smartphones a template is also given to facilitate application. Furthermore, being glass and not plastic, in the event of an error or the presence of dirt that has not been eliminated, it is possible to lift and put the glass back on without problems and even over and over again (taking care to clean it with the special spray or wipe).
In fact, as mentioned, glass is not plastic and the treatments present are certainly not common and therefore the price difference with other protections is present.
Have you tried PanzerGlass before? If the answer is affirmative, let us know in the comments how you found yourself to increase the feedback in addition to ours.
