REAR CAMERAS

The score given by DxOMark to the rear photographic sector is 147. Pixel 7 Pro thus turns out to be the best smartphone ever to take pictures, ranking first on a par with Honor Magic 4 Ultimate and ahead of iPhone 14 Pro by one point. Compared to Pixel 6 Pro there has been a big step forward (last year’s model had stopped at 134 points, and is now in 11th place), especially for thesoftware optimization which contributed to greatly improve zoom and video.

A novelty of DxOMark is the judgment on the quality of the photos in the occasions defined as “Friends & Family”, perhaps the most frequent in the daily use of the camera of our smartphone. So we go to analyze the quality of the shot towards friends and family, perhaps inside the home in conditions of light that are not always optimal. Well, Pixel 7 Pro got the highest rating in this category too thanks to the excellent results in the contrastin reproduction of skin tonesin the’exposure and in motion blur. The same positive judgment is given for the videos.

In general, Pixel 7 Pro takes photos with good color rendition, faithfully reproduces skin tones and has effective white balance and contrasts in all light conditions. Also very good zoom and autofocus, fast and accurate, as well as a balanced depth of field. In videos the ability to follow the subject while keeping it in focus correctly is appreciated, less well shooting at night with underexposure and too obvious noise.

DxOMark compares Google’s smartphone (1st) with iPhone 14 Pro (2nd): in a nutshell, Pixel 7 Pro is better in family photos and in the use of zoom. Different speech instead on the video side: despite the great improvements made, Google’s smartphone still remains far from the capabilities of the iPhone 14 Pro.

SELFIE CAM

iPhone 14 Pro ranks first with 146 points, Huawei P50 Pro second with 143in third place is placed Pixel 7 Pro with 142. This is a leap forward compared to the 6 Pro, stopped at 134 points and now fifth in the standings. The improvement is due to the refinement of the software, the results are very good in portraits and videos thanks to the faithful reproduction of colors and skin tones, as well as exposure. Some criticisms are made about the incorrect focus of close-up shots of faces and the reduction of details in low light conditions.

DISPLAY

Pixel 7 Pro’s display is – for DxOMark – the second best, behind only the iPhone 14 Pro Max. Excellent brightness, color fidelity and contrast, as well as the HDR10 video experience and readability indoors in low light conditions and outdoors thanks to the possibility of further increasing the brightness level (but its duration is very limited, and this can be read as a flaw). Some criticisms are made regarding the reduced fluidity of the displaywhich could sometimes compromise the quality of the gaming sessions.
