After years of waiting, finally in 2022 Google has released its first smart watchesi.e. Google Pixel. About, CounterPoint Research has published an analysis of how much the company costs to make the device. Well, the Pixel Watch at the Mountain View giant costs 123 dollars, while in the shops it is offered at the price of $399 (so there is a difference of $276).
Going into the details of the news, the higher costs derive from the chipset provided by Samsung, the Exynos 9110, which costs about $33. These costs also include NXP’s MIMXRT595S co-processor, as well as 2GB of RAM and 32GB of storage provided by Kingstone. Other not insignificant expenses concern the display, supplied by BOE, which costs Google about 21 dollars. Following, with 18 dollars, the costs related to the body of the Pixel Watch.
Between sensors and connectivity, however, the company pays approx 16 bucks while the various chips, including the one dedicated to GPS and Bluetooth, cost about 6 dollars.
Slightly lower, about 4 dollars, is the cost of the strap. Finally, the cost of the battery is around 7 dollars.
Furthermore, from the analysis of CounterPoint Research, another rather interesting fact is evident: most of the costs are attributable to Samsung – about 20% – given that the Korean brand supplies Google with both the processor and the LTE modem and other components. Following BUOYSwhich with its OLED displays represents 17.2% of the costs necessary to build the Pixel Watch.
