PS5 users, are you sure you’ve installed the Destiny 2 next gen patch?

There are still several PlayStation 5 owners playing the PS4 version of Destiny 2, despite the upgrade being free and available for download for almost two years: it was reported by Bungie itself, the software house that developed the game and invented the franchise. A matter of laziness? Not really – or rather, not alone: the console itself and its way of managing updates of this type are also involved.

If on the main competition console, Microsoft’s Xbox Series X and S, the “smart delivery” technology tuned by the company automatically selects and downloads / installs the most appropriate version of a game based on the hardware available, PS5 users must manually select the correct version for their console generation. It may happen, therefore, that for a trivial oversight or temporary inattention the user mistakes the download, and thus finds himself with the old-gen version, with limited graphics and functionality. For the less enthusiastic the difference in terms of graphics could be evident only after a direct comparison, as confirmed by the testimonies of some users on the Net (like this redditor).

In the past few months Sony has implemented some changes via firmware update that reduce the risk of error – when starting the installation of a PS4 game on PS5 a confirmation pop-up is shown, but in Destiny 2 for some reason this does not happen. After all, the title came out over 5 years ago now, and at the time it was in effect a game for PS4, and even now the copies in circulation of the physical disc do not specify that a next-gen upgrade is available.

In short, if you are the owner of the latest generation of Game Station and you are passionate about the Bungie shooter, make sure you have received the update: at stake are 60 FPS in 4K or 120 FPS in QHD 1440p, which are certainly not frivolities. If in doubt, head to the game’s product page and check if the upgrade files are available for download! As for the big picture, we can only hope that Sony will implement a safer system to prevent these situations from occurring.
