I gave Laura some advice. She and her husband have equity in their home, he told her that she and her husband should take out a home equity loan and pay off her credit card debt. I warned him, though, that he would have to have the discipline to never use his credit card again or his debt would keep piling up.

I couldn’t give Laura any guidance about her student loans because no one knows what federal policy will be. Will student loans be forgiven? Will students be forced to resume monthly payments in a few months? Will the Biden administration’s new income-based repayment plan be good for Laura and her family?

Something is wrong when a young couple working four jobs in high demand fields just can’t make ends meet. Why are we focusing on transgender athletes instead of people like Laura — people living in flyover country in an economy that doesn’t let them prosper? Why are we sending arms and ammunition to Ukraine, which is on the verge of collapse, instead of strengthening our education system?

It is now clear to me that the flyover country is a colony being exploited by the coastal elite. The powerful are getting rich while the people doing the real work in this country are drowning in poverty. The people living in Madhya Pradesh are civilized people. They are not homophobes, transphobes or white nationalists. They just want to reap the benefits of hard work and maintain the lifestyle that their parents loved.
