Regional elections in Lazio, things to know

Between Sunday 12 and Monday 13 Februaryabout 3 million people will go to vote in regional elections in Lazio and change junta and president. Polling stations will remain open from 7 to 23 on Sunday And from 7 to 15 on Mondaysfor a single electoral round, without ballotin which the government and opposition parties will compete for the first time since the general elections of 25 September 2022. What do you need to vote?

Voters and electricians will have to present themselves at the reference polling station, i.e. relating to their residence, equipped with electoral card And identification document valid.

How do you vote?

The vote is cast on only one cardwhere the provincial lists and regional coalitions of candidates for councilors are reported, linked to one’s own or one’s presidential candidate.

Is it possible the split votei.e. it is allowed to express one’s preference for a candidate for president, by putting an X on his badge, and then for a any list, even if not connected to the candidate president, always putting an X on the chosen symbol.

If you want to vote only for the person running for president and no list, just tick his flag, so the vote will not be extended to the list as well connected to him or her. Instead, to vote for a list and a candidate for president, just put an X on the symbol of the list.

Voters and electricians will then be able to indicate up to two names, connected to the chosen list, writing them next to the symbol. The names indicated must be mandatory one masculine and one feminineotherwise the second preference will be canceled.

Who are the candidates in the Lazio regional elections

After the Zingaretti era, the contenders for the presidency will be Alessio D’Amato, councilor for health, Francesco Rocca, president of the Italian Red Cross, and Rai journalist Donatella Bianchi. Here’s who supports them

How are elected council and president elected?

The President and the Regional Council are elected together in a single electoral round, by direct suffrage. There is therefore no ballot, in case the candidates for president do not reach an absolute majority, and whoever obtains the highest number of valid votes will win.

Who are the candidate persons?

Alessio D’Amatoregional councilor for health since 2018 with the Democratic Party, is the candidate of the coalition of center leftsupported by seven lists representing thirteen acronyms: Democratic Party, Action/Italia viva, D’Amato List, More Europe/Radicali/Volt, Demos, Greens/Left and the Italian Socialist Party.

Francesco Roccapresident of the Italian Red Cross, is the candidate proposed by right and supported by six lists: Brothers of Italy, Lega, Forza Italia, Us Moderates/Renaissance, Union of the Center and Civic List Rocca president.

Last but not least, Donatella BianchiRai journalist and former president of WWF Italy, is the candidate for president for the 5 star movementalso supported by the Polo Progressista, a list promoted by the former Minister of the Environment of the Greens, Alfonso Pecoraro Scanio, and by the former Deputy Minister of Economy of Liberi e Uguali, Stefano Fassina.

Although elections loom within weeks, some male and female candidates have not yet released their official electoral programmes. For the Lazio for example, the only program already available to the public is that of D’Amatowhose key points are: energy independence, the right to work and sustainable mobility, road safety and innovation.
