Samsung announces support for WiFi calling, starting with the S22

Only a few hours ago we told you about the introduction by WindTre of WiFi call support provided you have one of the supported devices and are within coverage offered by the same company, and now Samsung has announced officially that the WiFi Calling technology is available on some models of the Galaxy range.

He did so through a press release in his newsroom (in SOURCE), in which he confirmed that at the moment only the latest generation models, those in the S22 range, will be compatible but the list will expand very soon, even if we don’t know for sure which models. Technology Wi-Fi Calling, also known as VoWiFi (Voice Over Wi-Fi)allows you to receive and make calls when connected to a Wi-Fi network ensuring call continuity when switching from a cellular network to a Wi-Fi network and vice versa, in a completely automatic way.

Samsung thus describes the feature and specifies which specific functions will remain active even during the user experience under the WiFi network.

Once the service has been enabled, switching from one network to another will take place on the basis of pre-set thresholds, in order to avoid too frequent switching between the two network technologies VoWifi and VoLTE, i.e. the technology that allows you to make voice calls on the 4G network . The continuity of the call when switching from WiFi to 4G and vice versa is also guaranteed by the fact that the operation of the Wi-Fi Calling technology is based on the same infrastructure. The “Wi-Fi Calling” function guarantees support for network services such as, for example, call waiting, customer care, answering machine and calls to emergency numbers. Furthermore, it allows for optimized management of indoor coverage by the operator in areas with poor cellular network coverage and consequent optimization of voice service quality.

Apparently the technology is ready, but the service is being activated and it is said that it will be available immediately with all compatible devices. At the moment WindTre has pronounced itself confirming the compatibilitytherefore we just have to wait for further information from other operators.
