Samsung announces his in Frankfurt new European TV range for 2023. All the novelties were already anticipated at the beginning of January on the occasion of CES 2023 in Las Vegas, but now the line-up has been refined in a more detailed and specific way for the Old Continent, therefore including the Italian market.

SUMMARY

QD-OLED 2023 UP TO 77 INCH

The past year has seen Samsung debut its first TVs equipped with the technology OLED with Quantum Dots nanocrystals. The Korean giant has now decided to double the offer with two series S95C and S90C. As well as models with diagonals 55 and 65 inch2023 will also see the debut of models with 77-inch diagonal. There S95C series it differs from the S90C series by the presence of the external set-top box “One Connect Box” that integrates electronics, connections and power supply and for slightly higher “brightness” performance.

From a technical point of view, the QD-OLED 2023 panels see a further increase in the luminance peak, which should reach 2000 nits in HDR with the S95C series (let’s assume in “Dynamic” mode and we will then understand the “effective” data with the most correct presets in the coming months). The improved performance should also also have a positive impact on average and full screen luminance level. Samsung engineers have also improved the overall efficiency of the panels, with benefits in terms of consumption. The subpixel structure remains the same “triangle” of the 2022 QD-OLED panels, while a new anti-reflection filter which promises to mitigate the “raised black” effect when viewing in bright daytime environments.

NEO QLED 8K 2023

On the range front NeoQLEDthen the LCD with Mini LED backlightthe various series will continue to be declined in models with native resolution panels 8K (7680 x 4320 pixels) and 4K Ultra HD (3840 x 2160 pixels). At the top of the range we will find the QN900C series which will be available in models with diagonal 65, 75 and 85 inch.

All new models see this year a significant increase in local-dimming zoneswho arrive up to 1300 on the 85-inch model and also peaks of luminance arriving up to 4000 nits for the 85-inch model, while the 75 and 65-inch models will respectively reach 3000 and 2000 nits peak in HDR. Furthermore, the presence of connections entrusted to the external set-top box “One Connect Box” with HDMI 2.1 ports and extensive gaming support with refresh rate up to 144Hz and VRR compatibility with AMD FreeSync Premium Pro certified and Nvidia G-Sync. To complete the equipment, we also find an audio sector in 6.2.4 channel configuration with a declared total power of 90W.

Two more series QN800C and QN700C they will complete the 8K Mini LED range and both will be equipped with an external “One Connect Box” set-top box. The series QN800C will also be available in denominations 65, 75 and 85 inch, with number of local-dimming zones and also lower peak luminance performance than the QN900C series. On the gaming front the refresh-rate arrives in this case at 120Hz and the audio compartment integrates a 4.2.2-channel configuration system with a total power of 70W.

The series QN700C will come in diagonals 55, 65 and 75 inch and the native refresh rate of the panels will be limited in this case to 60Hz.

NEO QLED 4K 2023

Moving on, however, to the range Neo QLED 4Kto stand out the most is undoubtedly the QN95C series, which compared to its 2022 predecessor no longer sees the presence of the external set-top box, with all the electronics and connections that have now been integrated inside the chassis. The available diagonals will be 55, 65, 75 and 85 inchesand everyone will be able to count on panels with refresh rate up to 144Hz and extensive gaming support with 4 ports all HDMI 2.1 version. We do not currently have details on the number of local-dimming zones, while the HDR luminance peak should reach i 2000 nits.

The series QN90C it incorporates most of the characteristics of the major series, but the available diagonals will see the presence even a 43 and a 50 inch.

For the series QN85C we find the same diagonals of the QN95C series, while the panels will have a native refresh rate of 120Hz. Even the peak luminance performance will be lower than in the higher series and the audio sector will be able to count on an integrated solution in 2.2.2 configuration with 60W of declared power.

QLED 4K 2023

Finally, coming to the series QLED LCD (with “traditional” LEDs equipped with Quantum Dots nanocrystals), the 2023 range will consist of Q80C, Q70C and Q60C series. The series Q80C will come in diagonals from 50, 55, 65, 75 and 85 inches and maintains the configuration of “Full Array Local Dimming” LEDs with panels a 120Hzwhile the series Q70C (55, 65, 75 and 85 inches) and Q60C (50, 55, 65, 75 and 85 inches) they will both have a type backlight Edge LEDswith the Q70C series featuring 120Hz panels, while the Q60C series stops at 60Hz.

For the entire range of Samsung 2023 TVsHDR support provides compatibility with HDR10, HDR10+ (also Adpative) and HLG formats, while will continue to lack support for the Dolby Vision format.

“ECO MODE” TO CONTAIN CONSUMPTION

To respect the new European regulations on TV consumption (especially 8K models), Samsung’s 2023 TV range will be equipped with the new “Eco Mode” preset What will be activated by default when the TV is first installed. A mode that will start with a much lower factory luminance than in the past (which should be around 150 nits), but which will be able to take advantage of the ambient light sensor and Artificial Intelligence to optimize consumption without penalizing more than both the perception of brightness on the screen.

It is good to specify that this preset will obviously be modifiable at will by the end user who wants to exploit all the luminous potential of the new TVs, even if consumption will obviously be higher at that point.

SMART TV AND GAMING FEATURES

The Smart TV sector of the new Samsung 2023 will be entrusted to the Tizen 7 operating system which will see a further expansion of home automation and IoT functions, with the module SmartThings which will now see native support for synchronization and connection to devices (including third-party devices) Zigbee and Matter Threads.

Great attention will also be paid to gaming features, with the introduction of the new one Game Bar 3.0which will now see the presence of the new features “MiniMap Sharing” – which allows you to view the map of the current game on another connected screen, e “Virtual Aim Point” mainly dedicated to first-person shooter games (FPS) to highlight the crosshair. “MiniMap Sharing” is a feature that will be introduced via firmware update by summer 2023.

The 2023 range will allow games to be played with refresh rate up to 144Hzwill include VRR functionality, will be AMD FreeSync Premium Pro certified and the Tizen smart TV interface will be able to count on the Samsung Gaming Hub to access streaming cloud gaming platforms (up to 4K Ultra HD resolution) of Xbox, Nvidia Geforce Now, Amazon Luna and Utomik.
