Development of a 100% electric Skoda Octavia is currently underway. An Autocar report says that this model will be ready to hit the market by the end of the decade. Before its arrival, however, the automaker will update its current Octavia one last time in 2024.
When this car arrives, it will join a series of new battery-powered models that will arrive by 2026 including a 7-seater electric SUV anticipated by the Vision 7S concept, an electric “small” based on the joint project with Volkswagen and Cupra and a B -Electric UV which will replace the Fabia.
The CEO of Skoda, Klaus Zellmer, said they are studying an electric Octavia in view of the potential ban on the sale of internal combustion engine cars in Europe in 2035. However, the carmaker’s number did not rule out that even with the arrival of the electric model of the Octavia, the endothermic version may however continue to remain on sale in order to attract a greater number of customers. If this were really the case, it would mean that the two cars would be built on two different platforms with the battery-powered model probably based on the Volkswagen Group platform.
Since the debut is only expected in several years, it is possible that the electric Skoda does not use the MEB platform but rather the new SSP platform (Scalable Systems Platform) of the Volkswagen Group which will be launched in 2025.
Soon to talk about powertrain even if obviously it is legitimate to imagine that there will be different versions, even with two electric motors and with new generation batteries capable of guaranteeing long distances. Octavia is a very important model for Skoda. Its design will therefore not be distorted with the arrival of the electric version. However, for its look the manufacturer will take a cue from the new Modern Solid design language which we have also seen inside the Vision 7S concept car.
All that remains, therefore, is to wait for further information on the development of the future new electric Skoda Octavia.
