Sodium ion batteries: boom in requests and projects, also for Renault

In the last few hours it is already the second time that we talk about sodium ion batteries: the first – published this morning – concerned the small electric Sehola trademark of joint venture of JAC and Volkswagen Anhui.

Among the big names who had in turn shown interest in this chemical last year, it was rumored there was also the Chinese BYD.

Although the company he later deniedin January the automaker announced a small and affordable electric car – whose price should be between 8,200 and 13,700 euros – what that would be in line with using sodium ion batteries, rather than lithium.

CATL has in turn presented, in 2021, the first generation of a sodium ion battery while announcing that by 2023 it would have established a supply chain for the new technology.

Moving to Europe, in 2022 the Swedish Altris announced his first industrial-scale sodium ion cathode material production plant.

The match are also the United Stateswhere a project is being implemented for the production of sodium ion batteries with the collaboration of Natron Energy and Clariosboth manufacturers of batteries (the first with sodium ions, the second with lithium ions).
