They are Motors she finally gave up and closed the Zion project. Therefore, the electric car that can also be recharged with the sun thanks to the presence of solar panels in the bodywork will not be built. We know the history of Sion well and we know that several times the company was on the verge of stopping the project due to economic problems. The latest “crisis” had been announced towards the end of 2022. For this reason, Sono Motors had once again appealed to its customers to try to raise sufficient liquidity to bring the car into production.
This time, however, the company was unable to raise the necessary capital and had to throw in the towel. The Zion, therefore, will never arrive by road.
After having tried in every possible way to carry forward its electric car project that also recharges thanks to the energy of the Sun, Sono Motors will continue to go on anyway but will focus on solar charging technology which he developed thanks to the Sion project and which will offer to third parties.
We have already seen, over the last few months, that the company has started collaborations with various important companies including MAN and Scania. Following the decision to abandon the Sion project, Thomas Hausch, the Chief Operating Officer of Sono Motors, has resigned. Sadly, 300 of the company’s employees will lose their jobs.
But what happens to the thousands of already paid reservations of the Sion? The society has set up a repayment plan which should be completed within two years and which provides for the payment of the deposit in three installments: 30% of the advance amount by the end of May 2023, the following 40% by the end of June 2024 and the remaining 30% by January 2025. Furthermore, the company speaks of a 5% bonus which will be paid with the last installment. Customers will have to request a refund of the amount paid through the Sono Motors website.
