Sony granted the first tests with the headset PlayStation VR on the occasion of Tokyo Game Show which was held this week. With the first broadly positive reactions, the company has revealed further details, including theincompatibility of the first PS VR games with the new version of the headset.

“PS VR 2 designed to offer a next generation virtual reality experience” and for this the games for the first viewer will not be compatible, explain in Sony. PS VR 2 will come with a number of new features such as i controller with haptic feedback and adaptive triggerstype tracking inside-out which does not require external sensors e eye trackingalong with images 4K HDR. “This means that developing for PS VR 2 requires a completely different approach”.




Sony’s announcement, however, could represent a boomerang for the Japanese house, if it risks finding itself with a limited catalog on PS VR 2. Successful titles for the first generation such as Astro Bot Rescue Mission, No Man’s Sky or Mossin fact, they will require the use of old hardware, unless new versions specially converted for PS VR 2.


PS VR uses the PlayStation Camera and light-based tracking, while with PS VR 2 Sony tracks the position of the new controllers Sense through Infrared LED. PS VR 2 will also only work with PS5, while the previous generation hardware is not directly supported by the new console. Hence, they will be two almost completely distinct worlds.


Sony had previously announced that the arrival of PS VR 2 is expected for the first part of 2023.
