Apparently Spotify could be about to launch its rumored and awaited subscription with premium HiFi audio, distinguishing it from the basic one with a new name: it will be called Spotify Platinum. The news comes thanks to a user Redditwho said on the famous platform that he had responded to a new rather explicit survey on the issue, and apparently he would not be the only one to have done so.
We thus learn that the user had just canceled his subscription to Spotify Premium and as often happens when a subscription is closed, he was asked to respond to a short survey on the reasons that led him to this gesture.
The quite common operation when deactivating similar services, but the real novelty is that the survey then previewed among the alternatives a new level of membership which can be selected, theoretically, already in the next 30 days, and called Spotify Platinum. This new level, according to the screenshot uploaded by the user, includes the lossless HiFi sound that Spotify has long promised, along with a few other benefits. Let’s see the screen shared by the user.
As can be seen from the screenshot above, the advantages include Studio Sound (probably some form of proprietary spatial or surround sound), a headphone tuner mode, and other features called Audio Insights, Library Pro, Playlist Pro, and access to Spotify podcasts with limited advertising.
Unfortunately the screenshot does not reveal what we most want to know, namely the audio quality in detail. At the moment in Italy the best proposals are those of Tidal and Amazon Music HD, able to offer part of the catalog of FLAC files with a depth of 24 bits and a sampling frequency of 192 KHz.
But there is also the price, which we imagine will be translated in euros and in dollars, is set at 19.99. It seems immediately evident that it is much higher than that proposed by the main competitors, so it remains to understand why and if it will offer some indispensable plus. It shouldn’t be too long before the matter is fully clarified, as despite initial doubts that the screen highlights some form of market research, there are too many elements and details offered on the subscription.
