At the end of July we told you about the new M3P batteries developed by the Chinese manufacturer CATL. These new lithium cells have characteristics in common with the LFPbut instead of having lithium-iron-phosphate cathode, they add an element becoming lithium-manganese-iron-phosphate (LMFP). In reality the differences are not only these, and rightly CATL keeps its secrets for now, which significantly raise the energy density.

CATL had already announced that we would soon see this news on board the cars, and now according to reports coming from China, the first suspect is none other than Tesla Model Y. According to the report, the cells will be used in the version with a battery of approximately 72 kWh.

This is an absolute novelty, as it was thought that Tesla wanted it increase energy density focusing on assembly technology cell-to-packeliminating the division into modules, and thus saving space and weight to focus on greater capacity.
