The Synology SA6400 builds upon the former SA-series flagship model, the SA3400, and is designed to handle 12 disks with the option to add 8 RX1223RP expansion units, for a total of 108 disks and over 1.9PB of storage capacity.

The sequential read speed reaches to 6,500MB/swhile the writing goes to 4,000MB/s. Available network connectivity is a 10Gbpsbut expansion cards can be installed to bring it to 25Gbps or 40Gbps. There are two 10GbE ports and four 1GbE ports, both with the ability to port trunking.

The device uses a processor AMD EPYC 7272 to 12 core, accompanied by 32GB DDR4 ECC RAM (on a single module; 16 slots are available for a maximum capacity of 1 TB). There are also 2 USB 3.0 ports and 2 PCIe Gen 3 x8 slots.

The system is designed to host corporate archiving and, therefore, both the data to be provided to other machines and backups. Synology then relies heavily on the software ecosystem it has built over time, with additional features such as applications (for example Active Backup Suite to back up clients) or the ability to run containers via Docker.
