At the beginning of August 2022, the development of the Tamron Lens Utility Mobile dedicated, at least for the moment, to Android devices. This allows all users who do not own a computer or who are far from their PC to have access to some options of the Japanese manufacturer’s optics.
This is a useful move to retain your customers or to acquire new ones by providing additional (free) support. A strategy that could have positive implications in the future, especially when the iOS version designed for Apple smartphones is also available (while now we have focused only on the one for Google’s operating system). Here’s what you need to know.
Tamron Lens Utility Mobile available for Android devices
The new application is now officially available inside the Google Play Store and is therefore downloadable by all users with supported devices. Users will be able to connect their own branded optics Tamron to a smartphone via a cable with connector USB Type-C. This will allow you to adjust some specific settings without having to use a PC (not always available when traveling or during a photo shoot).

Among the possibilities offered by Tamron Lens Utility Mobile there is that call “AB Focus” which allows you to change the focus from one preselected point to another remotely and therefore without physically touching the lens. Then there is the “Focus Presets” which allows you to set the desired focus and then move it to the saved point with a single touch. Another feature is to select the autofocus search interval making it faster by having a smaller excursion.

You can also select AF and MF or choose whether the ring is to be used for focus adjustment or aperture setting. You will also be able to choose custom functions for the Focus Set button. New features designed specifically for video production will also be added over time.

Not all lenses are currently supported. According to the manufacturer the Tamron Lens Utility Mobile it is compatible with the 28-75mm F/2.8 Di III VXD G2 (model A063) for Sony E, the 35-150mm F/2-2.8 Di III VXD (model A058) for Sony E and the 20-40mm F/2.8 Di III VXD (model A062) for Sony E. There will also be compatibility with the 50-400mm F/4.5-6.3 Di III VC VXD (model A067) in the future.
