The project Telegram Premium it has been available to everyone for six months, and the founder of the platform Pavel Durov has taken the turning point to sum up an experience that is still young. But from the official numbers it seems to have been well received by the users of the platform: the subscriptions to Premium have reached quota a milliona result which, explains Durov, “already exceeded our expectations”.
Unexpected revenues so high from the ads. Unlike what happens on other applications, Telegram has prioritized privacy: “We have decided that no personal data could be used for profiling“, so inevitably the advertising, present on the public channels of those who use the app for free, had to be generic. Yet the ads “significantly outperformed the market and put Telegram on a path to financial sustainability”.
The money generated by Premium subscriptions is still a fraction of Telegram’s budget, but the million subscriptions in six months bode well for the future. Also because there is no shortage of ideas: Durov is confident that the features the team is working on “will lay the foundation for Telegram’s further financial growth in 2023”.
Thanks to the success of the monetization, Telegram will be able to pay for the servers, traffic and salaries necessary to continue developing new features and support existing ones. While some other apps view their users as a way to maximize revenue, we view revenue as a way to deliver more value to users.
