Ten 2.2TB plates for each, for a total of 22TB. These, in short, are the new hard disks launched on the market by Western Digital, the only one to date to offer disks of this size. Three ranges that will be able to make use of units with so much space available: WD Golddesigned for use in data centers, WD Red Prodesigned to be installed inside NAS, and WD Purple Pro, for video surveillance applications.
The new units are based on technology HelioSeal, which allows you to cram 2.2TB for each platter, thus increasing the information density, and maximum capacity, compared to other devices. Also supported OptiNANDalready implemented in other hard drives by WD, which improves drive performance.
Three ranges for as many needs
Not all hard disks are the same and, depending on the use to be made of them, different technical measures are adopted. The range WD Gold, for example, it is designed for use within data centers and was developed with reliability and TCO (Total Cost of Ownership) containment in mind. Includes vibration protection and guarantees an MTBF of 2.5 million hours.
The discs of the series WD Red, on the other hand, they are designed to be inserted inside home or corporate NAS, up to a maximum of 24 bays. Engineers have prioritized the performance of these units when used in multi-user environments.
The models of the series are more particular WD Purple Prowhich are designed to meet the needs of smart video surveillance systems, for example facial recognition camera systems. Systems that acquire and have to process streams of images from numerous cameras, and then apply AI and machine learning algorithms. These units support the technology AllFrame, which allows you to manage 32 AI streams simultaneously for deep learning analytics applications. Or, to manage 64 streams from HD cameras, without losing any frames. As in the case of data centers, reliability is also of utmost importance in this area and the MTBF is 2.5 million hours.
