Thanks to a partnership between TIM, ANM (Neapolitan Mobility Company) e Qualcomm it circulates along the line number 4 of the city of Campania the first 5G trama cloud mobility experimentation service that aims to combine the information services provided by modern data connection technologies with the practicality of a typically urban means of transport such as the tram.

The 5G tram will travel along the section from Corso S. Giovanni to Teduccio in Municipio in the coming weeks, inside which a system that allows users to access an infotainment portal, whose contents will be viewable from your smartphone or through one of the 4 screens mounted inside the tram. This portal is accessible from the 5G network implemented inside the tram and provides various useful information for those who are on the road at that time.

The information data made available to tram users are linked precisely to the point of the city where the vehicle is located: from historical pills to places and points of interest accessible at the next stop, up to news, information, weather and connections with other means of transport. The goal of this portal is therefore to offer a transport experience that is not only efficient with regard to the transfer from one station to another, but also makes the journey as complete and rich as possible.

The connection to the portal is completely anonymous through any mobile device with WiFi connectivity; in a second time it will be possible to integrate the experience also with external connectivity to the web, implementing an authentication system among the classic ones via email, code via SMS or with social profile.

In addition to making information available to occupants, the 5G tram can collect a series of information related to its operation, the timing of moving from one stop to the next, the air quality and the presence of anomalous traffic that are sent to the operations center. This implementation is a first concrete modality of how the concept of smart city can be implemented on rail transport in a city like Naples, the first in Italy to embrace an experiment of this type.
