Silent, ecological, the Made in Italy solar-powered drone flies autonomously for eight hours and automatically signals even very small fires (30 centimeters in diameter, like a campers’ bonfire). With its eight hours of autonomy and with its infrared sensors it can scan more than 500 hectares of land every hour. It could become an essential tool to combat the plague of fires, which every year throughout Italy they destroy 1500 square kilometers of woods and forests. Fires that, if caught early, could be contained and extinguished in the bud.

The drone it’s called FireHound Zero, “fire hound”and despite the English name it is totally Italian: created by Npc of Imola and from Vector Robotics of Mogliano Veneto (in Treviso). It has small dimensions but capital performance: only 87 centimeters long and with a wingspan of two meters, it weighs a kilo and a half and on its wings there are half a square meter of photovoltaic cells that recharge the battery and allow the electric motor to fly with a range of about 10 km.
Using the FH-0 drone is very simple: it can be hand launched by an operator and at the end of the mission he lands at the programmed point. The operational altitude is about 120 meters and flies at 40 kilometers per hour. With its infrared camera (this one produced by the American Teledyne FLIR) FH-0 finds fires even in the early stages thanks to the temperature of the flames. On board the drone there is a 4G / 5G module that allows you to extend the operational range. And since the solar-powered electric motor does not pollute and is silent, it can also be flown over protected areas such as natural parks without harming the environment or disturbing the animals.
