The Pixel 7 is the first Android to only support 64-bit apps

As pointed out by Mishaal Rahmanthe Pixel 7 goes down in history as the first Android devices to support 64-bit apps only. This is because Google would have completely disabled 32-bit app support on the Pixel 7.

In practice this means that the new Pixels will not be able to install and run 32-bit apps. On a technical level, this is because the Android binary interfaces (ABI) implemented in the build of Android 13 that we find on the new Pixel 7 have been disabled for support for apps with 32-bit architecture.

Exclusive support for 64-bit apps is part of a strategy that Google has been running for a few years now. It was in fact 2017 when Big G announced that by 2019 would have liked all Android apps to be 64-bit.

The advantage of having only 64 apps in the Android world is the improve safety and performance of the apps themselves. It is quite clear that no one would be interested in developing 32-bit apps that cannot be supported on Android devices.

So let’s expect the next builds of Android they will come with the same limitation. We will probably not even notice it since now the almost all some Android apps are 64-bit.
