Everything is now ready for the debut of Tom Clancy’s The Division 2 on Steam. At the launch in 2019 (here you can also find the review made at the time) Ubisoft announced that it did not plan availability on the Valve platform, that the game would be available on the Epic Game Store as well as on Ubisoft Connect (then it arrived also on Stadia, which has closed its doors in the meantime).
For some time, however, the agreements have evidently changed, and after three years of absence Tom Clancy’s The Division 2 is one step away from its debut on Steam: it will arrive on Thursday 12 January, it’s official. We will start with the last season available, i.e. the tenth. It will keep company with Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, which arrived on the Valve platform on December 6, and shortly after, on January 26, it will be joined by Watch Dogs Legion.
It almost sounds like a surrender, that of Ubisoft, to the Valve platform, which is the one with the widest availability of games as well as the most frequented by users. The feeling is that the attempt to counter its domination has not borne the hoped-for results, three years after choosing to defect from the platform.
In Tom Clancy’s The Division 2, the fate of the free world is at stake. You have to lead a team of elite agents in a Washington emerging from an epidemic to restore order in an open, dynamic and hostile landscape and thus prevent the fall of the city. “The Division 2 – writes the developer – is an online shooter with RPG elements based on exploration and player growth”.
