Toyota has just unveiled the new model family Crown. The name, new to European motorists, is part of the DNA of the Japanese manufacturer and dates back to 1955. It was initially used to identify a luxury vehicle produced in large volumes and equipped with cutting-edge technologies.

Under the same name, high-end sedans were made for Japan in subsequent years 67 years old. Today, however, with the market undergoing profound transformation, Toyota is adapting to the tastes of customers and with the term Crown presents not one but even 4 models that abandon the classic shapes of the three volumes and marry those of the crossovers.

Not entirely, to be honest. The sedan remains, but alongside it are the crossovers, the SUV and the compact with a sporty look. The new Crown family will be marketed on 40 marketsbut it shouldn’t arrive in Europe.

All models of the Crown series are recognized for a common style. They have a sleek front with a thin grille and sharp headlights that almost hide in the folds of the bodywork. Inside, too, you can discover car interiors with attention to the smallest details in which very simple shapes are combined with refined details and quality materials.

Mechanically, the four Toyota Crowns share the same platform, derived from the TNGA, and the same powertrains. Regarding this last aspect, there are two engines available, both hybrid.

The first uses an engine 2.4 Turbo petrol with two electric units which, by placing one at the rear, also guarantees all-wheel drive. The second adopts the well-known Toyota scheme with 2.5 petrol Atkinson cycle with electric unit inside the transmission proposed for example by the RAV4.

As for technologies, the Toyota Crowns will be able to count on the presence of Safety Sensewhich includes all the most modern driver assistance devices, and on the so-called Toyota Teammatewhich includes functions such as remote autonomous parking and automatic traffic jam management.
