Simeone wants the best from his players, despite falling out with Felix

Manchester United are being linked with new signings in today’s transfer news, rumours and gossip as the Premier League side aim to replace Cristiano Ronaldo.

Ronaldo’s departure has left an attacking spot available in Erik ten Hag’s squad and the club are eyeing two World Cup stars as possible replacements. Eintracht Frankfurt’s 24-year-old forward Randal Kolo Muani is one of those on United’s radar, according to Sky Germany, after impressing for France in several cameo appearances. Another is 22-year-old Ghana forward Mohammed Kudus, who Ajax have reportedly priced at £40m. United are also in the race to sign France defender Axel Disasi from Monaco, writes the Daily Mail.

Chelsea continue to chase Argentina’s World Cup-winning midfielder Enzo Fernandez, although Benfica are keen to hold onto their player, which could lead the Blues back to Brighton and Moises Caicedo. They’ve also been linked with a late hijack for Arsenal target and Shakhtar Donetsk’s Mykhailo Mudryk. It promises to be a busy month, with Liverpool already completing a £35m deal for Cody Gakpo from PSV but Jurgen Klopp may now move for a midfielder after more troubling signs in the loss to Brentford. However, Real Madrid are the ones in pole position to sign Jude Bellingham from Borussia Dortmund, according to Marca.

And there you go! Just confirmed, Southampton have signed Mislav Orsic from Dinamo Zagreb for £6m. The 30-year-old has signed a two-and-a-half-year contract with the Premier League club, who will hope he is a boost to their survival chances.

Southampton manager Nathan Jones said: “Mislav is a significant addition to our squad and I’m delighted we have been able to get him in so quickly this month.

“He’s a serious attacking threat and I’m sure anyone who has followed his progress or saw what he achieved at the World Cup will realise the talent he has. We’re excited to have him here.”

Mislav Orsic said: “I feel very happy to be here, I think it’s a dream for every football player to come to play in the Premier League and I’m here, I’m ready, I’m motivated and I hope that I will help the team to achieve their goals.

“When I come here to the camp, it’s amazing, and I’m sure I will really enjoy my time here. Now it’s a little bit of a difficult situation for the club, but I think we need to stay together. We have only one plan – everybody to stay in the Premier League. We need to work hard every day and I hope that at the end of the year we will be happy.”

Bryan Gil set to stay at Tottenham this month

Tottenham forward Bryan Gil is set to remain at the club this month following his impressive appearance against Crystal Palace on Wednesday.

The 21-year-old had been linked with a loan move away, potentially back to Spain, but played a key role in Tottenham’s 4-0 win at Selhurst Park.

And Tottenham assistant head coach Cristian Stellini said he expects the Spaniard to remain at Spurs this window.

“I think so, yeah,” Stellini said when asked if Gil would stay at Tottenham. “He could and he’s playing very well. We’re so happy because he’s another player we worked a lot with.

“He has a great, great, great improvement, because he trains every day 110%. He puts in all his energy every day and this is why he deserved to play a good match to be important in that match, with an assist, and the last pass before an assist. It was a great match for him.”

Manchester United loan a ‘really good move’ for Jack Butland

Crystal Palace boss Patrick Vieira believes goalkeeper Jack Butland’s loan to Manchester United will benefit both clubs.

The move was confirmed on Friday morning, with the 29-year-old set to provide a third option for Erik Ten Hag, who also has number one David De Gea and Tom Heaton at his disposal.

Vieira has been vocal about the need for January reinforcements to his inconsistent 12th-placed side and Butland’s departure could free up both space and resources.

He said: “I think for us, we knew that we had three really good goalkeepers and Jack was one of them, and sometimes a player wants to have more time on the field than you can promise, so I think at the end it’s a really good move for Jack.

“And the last couple of years that I’ve worked with him, he has been a real professional and we wish him all the best.”

“If we will add someone they will be different as a characteristic, as a player. We are thinking of adding one more into the squad.”

Aston Villa have been linked with Villarreal winger Arnaut Danjuma as well as Udinese’s Gerard Deulofeu, two players Emery has worked with previously.

Emery has also dismissed suggestions he will allow Danny Ings to leave this month, although Cameron Archer has joined Middlesbrough on loan.

West Ham could be forced into market amid relegation worries

David Moyes admits West Ham could make moves in the January transfer market in a bid to climb away from relegation trouble.

Moyes had previously insisted January would not be a busy time after the club splashed £160million on the likes of Nayef Aguerd, Lucas Paqueta and Gianluca Scamacca over the summer.

But, with the Hammers lying perilously close to the drop zone, Moyes might have had a rethink. “We might try and do some business if we can,” said Moyes. “But ultimately the club spent a lot of money in the summer and we brought in a lot of players.

“And, ideally, we’re not trying to bring in so many players. We brought in a lot in this summer and we’re still trying to integrate them and get used to the Premier League. But we may need to, depending on how we think the situation is.”

Brentford boss Frank praises ‘almost perfect’ Schade signing

Brentford manager Thomas Frank has praised the signing of striker Kevin Schade, who has arrived on loan from Freiburg until the end of the season.

“He’s almost a perfect Brentford player; he has very good potential, wants to learn, and is a good character. I really like his pace, ability to go in behind, and his goalscoring potential. He will be involved in the squad tomorrow,” Frank said ahead of Brentford’s match against West Ham in the FA Cup.

“Kevin was the number one priority. We have no other clear priorities but if there is a good deal at the right price and the right potential, because I think we have enough experience in the team, then we’ll see.”
