Ready to see the cows fly again? Twister is about to return, indeed get ready to Twisters. After several attempts in recent years, the 1996 cult film, centered around a terrifying tornado, will return with a new story. The project will be produced by the Amblin Entertainment by Steven Spielberg, who he teams up with Universal Pictures and Warner Bros., which will finance the production together. There is already a script written by Mark L. Smith (The Revenant, Overlord) and a director had already been identified, namely Joseph Kosinski, fresh from the extraordinary recent success of Top Gun: Maverick: now, however, given his numerous commitments, he seems to have slipped away and a new director of direction must be sought.

Several options are currently being evaluated, including Dan Trachtenberg (which, however, has already denied any involvement on Twitter), Travis Knight from Bumblebee and the couple Jimmy Chin and Elizabeth Chai Vaserhelyi of the extraordinary documentary Free Solo. Little is currently known about the plot but several sources report that the intention is to bring back in the cast Helen Huntone of the protagonists of the original film, but focusing on the daughter he had with Bill Paxtonher colleague in the first film but who disappeared in February 2017. The plot should start from the fact that the girl took the passion for tornado hunting, obviously having to face anomalous and uncontrollable atmospheric phenomena.

Twister it was one of the most iconic and most iconic films success of the the nineties: on its release 26 years ago it wiped out competition at the box office, picking up 494 million dollarsi around the world. The relevance of the original chapter, which was written by the mythical Michael Crichton (the writer and screenwriter of Jurassic Park And ER), was such as to inspire an attraction of the same name in the Universal amusement parks. Obviously if at the time the out of control tornadoes could be considered as an almost science fiction anomaly, today climate change and environmental problems they are urgently topical and certainly the new Twister will address the issue from this point of view. The hope is to start production in spring 2023.
