Nearby Share is a Google service that allows you to share any file or photo between Android devices or Chromebooks. Operation is very similar to Apple’s AirDrop: Once you have chosen the file to share, just choose Nearby Share among the sharing methods and then select the device to send the file to.
With an upcoming update of this feature, it will become much easier to share files with your devicesi.e. smartphones, tablets or Chromebooks accessed with the same Google account.
After selecting the URL, document, photo, video or Wi-Fi password to share, devices connected to the same Google account will be displayed immediately on the leftand they will be separated from “external devices” by a separator: selecting one of your devices, the transfer will take place immediately, without the need to accept anything.
Everything will work out even when the screen of the device receiving the file is turned off: After sharing the file, a notification will simply be shown confirming receipt of the file. Google is also rolling out a new one Quick Toggle from which to manage the visibility of the device to Nearby Share.
Finally, the company added that Nearby Share will use Ultrawide Band and NFC technologies, as well as Bluetooth, Bluetooth Low Energy, peer-to-peer Wi-Fi and WebRTC, when available, to improve and speed up file sharing. .
