The news had been circulating for some time, but it is now official: Volkswagen is already thinking about the next generation of its electric car platform, which will be called MEB+. We find out via a short online dossierwhere the Group outlines the project.

The beating heart of the platform of the future should be one new lithium cellwhich would allow more autonomy (presumably therefore with greater energy density) and also support for greater charging power, up to 200 kW.

MEB+

It would mean having reached the maximum level allowed by CCS technology at 400 volts at 500 A, which would also be one of the reasons for the criticisms of the current MEB platform, which appears outdated compared, for example, to Hyundai-Kia’s E-GMP, at 800 A volts down today, and capable of better performance.

However, everything suggests that for now VW remains oriented towards 400 volts, aiming for it greater autonomy, up to 700 km. Consequently, the 58 kWh and 77 kWh battery packs will not be the only ones available, rising towards 100 kWh, a solution that will probably make its debut with the extended autonomy version of the ID.BUZZ.
