Volkswagen will bring the production version of the ID electric concept to its debut. AERO in second half of 2023. Initially, as we know, the battery-powered sedan will be launched on the Chinese market. Subsequently, it will also arrive in Europe. This model, which is also seen as the electric heir to the Passat, was once again intercepted on the road during a test session. In particular, the car was spied on while recharging at an IONITY high-power station.

The new spy photos allow you to take a closer look at the car not only on the outside but also on the inside.

MEB PLATFORM

Looking at the pictures you notice less camouflage than in the past. Ahead we can observe that Volkswagen has applied a series of decals on the headlights and nose to hide their actual design. By making a quick comparison with the images of the concept car, one can think that the headlights are joined together through a thin light bar.

Behind, however, we can note the fake tailpipes and the light camouflage at the level of the light clusters. The general lines of the car seem to be almost definitive and there are several similarities with the concept car. With regard to interiors, the new spy photos allow you to observe a bridge covered mostly by a cloth. However, the large central display dedicated to the infotainment system can be clearly seen, which will be an evolution of the one currently present in the electric cars of the Volkswagen ID range.

You can also see the small screen behind the steering wheel of the digital instrumentation. The interior layout, therefore, shouldn’t be too different from that of current Volkswagen electric models.

As for the technical details, we only know for sure that the car will rest on the well-known MEB platform. Speaking of the concept car, the German brand had limited itself to stating that it could count on a 77 kWh (usable) battery. Thanks to the large capacity accumulator and aerodynamic efficiency (for the concept the Cx was 0.23), Volkswagen declared a WLTP range of up to 620 km. Certainly, this model will eventually be offered in several variants with one or two electric motors and with batteries of different capacities.

Therefore, all that remains is to wait for further information on the development of this new electric car which is very important for the electrification strategy of the German brand.
