L’ACEA the European association of automotive manufacturers, e Volvo it has been part of it for some time, like 15 other important names in the car, truck and bus sectors. The Swedish company, which has recently focused very strongly on electric cars and on a fully electric future, seems to want to leave the association, due to differences of opinion.

According to a report by Reuters, by the end of the year Volvo will abandon ACEAand from the words quoted it seems that the main reason is the lack of commitment to electrification and zero emissions, a goal that Volvo instead sees as a priority.

Not too much between the lines ACEA is accused of being a lobby that tries to row against the change taking place. These are the words of Volvo: “We concluded that Volvo Cars’ sustainability strategy and ambitions are not fully aligned with ACEA’s positioning and way of working at this stage, so we believe it is better for now to take a different path. What we do as an industry will play an important role in deciding whether the world has a chance to fight climate change“.

And in fact, Volvo has already implemented an articulated program, through which it has already brought two electric cars to the market – not counting the Polestar spin-off – and has also worked to reduce factory emissions and to build an important quantity of lithium batteries directly in Sweden. Volvo plans to sell only electric cars by 2030, five years before the planned ban by the European Community.
