NEW DELHI: Royal Challengers Bangalore opener Sophie Devine gauged the Brabourne pitch in the very first over and then went berserk to pull off 24 runs in a single over during their Women’s Premier League (WPL) match against Gujarat Giants in Mumbai on Saturday.
RCB, were 39/0 after two overs, had a blistering start to their 189-run chase against the Giants. Devine missed out on a well-deserved century as she got out on 99 which came in just 36 balls.
Devine, who became the highest scorer of the league thus far, made the mockery of the Giants bowling as her blitzkrieg knock included 9 fours and 8 sixes.

The incident happened as early in the second over of the innings when Kiwi batter Devine went hammer and tongs against off break bowler Ashleigh Gardner of Giants.
The spin was introduced in the second over itself and the first ball fetched no run but after that it was a carnage as Devine hit Gardner for 6, 4, 4, 6 and 4 to steal 24 runs from the over. RCB skipper Smriti Mandhana was left as a mere spectator at the far end.

Devine started off with a six as she played the slog sweep and dispatched the ball into the stands behind square. Devine then followed it up with cracking cover drives for back-to-back boundaries.

Gardner tried to do something different but Devine was in no mood to go slow as she hit another slog sweep for a biggie and this time it went into the deep mid-wicket stands.
Devine finished off the over with a well-timed down the ground drive towards the right of mid-off to get another boundary.
