Well yes! Also WhatsApp has launched into the movie industry or rather, the streaming TV industry if we consider that its new production will be entrusted to two well-known channels, namely Prime Video and Youtube. The announcement came as a surprise last night, thanks to the publication of a promotional teaser and a official trailer.

The film will be titled Naija Odyssey and the promotional image contains an unusual written credit that claims to be “A WhatsApp movie“. Surprised? We are, even more so because his arrival is imminent, we are talking about 21 September.

Apparently the film will focus on the true story of Giannis Antetokounmpo, an NBA basketball star born in Greece to Nigerian parents. The description of the YouTube trailer also suggests that the film will tell us about the life of the player and the world around him, telling who he was in the smallest details. According to TechCrunchhowever, Naija Odyssey will have more the characteristics of a short film than a feature film, in fact we are talking about a duration of only 12 minutes, but there is no definitive confirmation on this data either.

Although there is no official communication to this effect and the teaser only indicates Prime Video, it seems that the short film will also be distributed on WhatsApp social media channels, including YouTube. Speaking of the Google platform, it is recent news that it wants to battle TikTok on Shorts vertical content, implementing a much more aggressive monetization, to the benefit of creators.

At this point we just have to leave you to the official trailer of the WhatsApp movie, coming to Prime Video on September 21st.
