Windows 11 22H2 has printing problems with some PCs

Microsoft seems to have bad luck when it comes to printing issues and bugs in Windows, and even the most recent update to version 22H2 doesn’t seem to be exempt from them. Some users report their network printers missing after the update, and Microsoft has officially confirmed the problem.

According to a new post in the official Windows 11 Health Dashboard documentation, Systems running Windows 11 2022 Update (22H2) they could have problems detecting all features in printers using IPP class MicrosoftDriver or Universal Print Class driver.

If the operating system cannot connect to the printer, a standard feature set is set by default. Once the connection is restored, a bug prevents Windows from accessing specific features. Microsoft states that the problem may affect printers’ ability to use color, duplex printing, changing paper size and type settings, resolutions, and so on.

Microsoft applied a compatibility lock, which means Affected systems will not receive the Windows 11 2022 update until Microsoft releases a fix to the issue. The company is working on more accurate targeting and will provide more information in the future, but in the meantime the problem can be circumvented by those affected by using the official solution. To mitigate security and allow your Windows device to upgrade to Windows 11, version 22H2, you can remove any printer using IPP class MicrosoftDriver or Universal Print Class driver you have installed. After removing all affected installed printers, you should be able to upgrade to Windows 11, version 22H2. Note that if there are no other security measures affecting your device, it can take up to 48 hours before the upgrade to Windows 11 is offered. Restarting your device and checking for updates may help you offer sooner . If you have a printer installed that only allows default settings, you can mitigate this problem by removing and reinstalling the printer.
