Women: 9 times out of 10 they are the ones who die when their partner kills

The 38.1% of the victims of the murders committed in 2022 is represented by women. A percentage that rises to 92.9% if only those are taken into consideration in which the person responsible has or had a romantic relationship with the victim. The numbers they come from the Criminal Analysis Service of the Ministry of the Interior and are updated to November 20th. Wired has summarized them in the infographic below.

The black circles represent the total number of homicides committed, the red bubbles instead those in which victims are women. As can be seen, the percentage of female victims rises the more the crime has matured within the family and loved ones. And there don’t seem to be major changes in the four years taken into consideration thanks to ministerial data. Or almost, as the graph below shows.

The white bars represent the total number of women victims of homicide, the redheads instead those killed by the current or former partner. As can be seen, in past years the percentage of feminicides was higher than 50%in the 2019 had passed the 60%. This year, however, it is precisely equal to 50% of the total.

The data is updated to November 20, 2022. It will be necessary to wait for the definitive data to understand whether the 2022 will score one decrease in the incidence of feminicides of the total homicides of women. And, if necessary, those of the next few years to understand if this year has possibly inaugurated a trend or will represent an exception. We shouldn’t wait, however, to say that there is a relationship management problem for some men. And that it is the women who said they loved that pay the price.
