The folding arena is particularly crowded in this hot August. Today is the turn of Xiaomi MIX Fold 2, officially unveiled by Xiaomi in the last few minutes. And as mentioned, he is not the only one: just today we showed you Moto Razr 2022, while yesterday it was the turn of Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Galaxy Z Flip 4. If Motorola’s is a clear gauntlet to Samsung’s Flip, the new MIX Fold 2 aims to unseat the Z Fold 4 from the throne, and given the specifications and some peculiarities it could even succeed.

The undisputed protagonists are the two screens that characterize it. The external one already has all the credentials to provide an excellent user experience: 6.5 “AMOLED, full HD +, 1,000 nits of brightness and 120 Hz of refresh rate are more than enough for the vast majority of users. The internal one, once opened, is a 8.02 “2K + always OLED at 120 Hz, even brighter and with faithful colors. There are a couple of peculiarities to highlight: one concerns the type of OLED, defined by Xiaomi Echo OLED. The internal panel used by Xiaomi has one less layer and consumes 25% less than a classic OLED, so much so as to guarantee it the Eco prefix. The second particularity concerns the hinge a “micro drop”, as the manufacturer defines it, which allows the final structure to be even thinner and more efficient.
Precisely the reduced hinge causes the device to be characterized by a particularly low thickness. When closed it measures 11.2 mm against the 15.8 mm of the Z Fold 4. When open it is a real one “slices”: 5.4 mm, practically a USB-C port, against the 6.3 mm of the fourth generation Z Fold. And the great thing is that the battery it is equipped with is slightly larger than the Korean foldable: 4,500 mAh with 67W charging support against the 4,400 mAh with 25 W charging of the Samsung device. Perhaps the slightly higher battery causes the weight to be too: 262 grams against the 254 of the Fold. According to Xiaomi, a full charge takes 40 minutes. With 10 minutes of charging instead we speak of a 38% more remaining charge.

There is obviously also a certain attention to the photographic sector, once again made in collaboration with LEICA. The main sensor is a run-in Sony IMX766 50 megapixel optically stabilized, accompanied by an ultra-wide and a tele sensor that guarantees 2X optical zoom. The participation of LEICA It’s not limited to lenses – there are also photo filters and two shooting styles.
The rest of the hardware is top of the range: processor Snapdragon 8+ Gen 112 GB of RAM, up to 1 TB of internal memory, Harman Kardon audio.
Output and price
As for the priceswe can take a peek at those that will be offered in China:
- 12/256 GB – 8,999 CNY, approximately € 1,291
- 12/512 GB – 9,999 CNY, approximately € 1434
- 12GB / 1TB – 11,999 CNY, about 1,721 €
It remains to be seen whether MIX Fold 2 will actually arrive in Europe. Given the characteristics it could really be a valid competitor for Samsung’s Z Fold 4, but if Xiaomi does not take it outside the Chinese borders, the challenge will be won by the Korean manufacturer.
