Although his return in Born Again teases a team-up with Daredevil, the Punisher will almost certainly meet up with certain other Marvel heroes in the near future. It is quite possible that the Punisher will find himself consorting with various other street-level superheroes in the MCU. Among these are Echo, Moon Knight, Hawkeye, and Spider-Man, all of whom would be an absolute delight to see teaming up with Frank Castle. If the remaining Defenders also return to the MCU, Frank could even meet each of them for the first time.
While it is unlikely that Frank Castle will ever join the Avengers given his unsavory tactics, he could find himself on a different MCU superhero team in the near future. The rumored Midnight Sons team could be a perfect squad for the Punisher to join, especially since the heroes of their ranks don’t seem to mind lethal tactics in their brand of crimefighting. As such, Bernthal’s Punisher may regularly team up with the likes of Moon Knight, Elsa Bloodstone, Black Knight, Man-Thing, and Mahershala Ali’s Blade. His relationship with these heroes could then become a key point of exploration for Frank Castle’s character in the future of the MCU.
1 The Punisher Can Explore Bigger Storylines In The MCU
As a result of his joining the larger MCU, Jon Bernthal’s Punisher can take on bigger and better storylines that his Netflix series never could. As beloved as Netflix’s Defenders Saga is, it was severely limited in what it could do. Each of its characters was mostly relegated to his or her own series and, though there were occasional interconnected plot points between shows, there were very few overarching storylines. The Punisher was especially isolated in his own series, undergoing comparatively smaller stories than other heroes in the Defenders Saga and the MCU as a whole, though this may finally change with his forthcoming return.
As a part of a larger universe, the Punisher has more room to embark on larger story arcs that don’t have to be contained in his own self-titled series. Being in the MCU alone allows the Punisher to partake in multi-part stories that extend beyond a thirteen-episode season, whether these arcs include other heroes or not. The Punisher’s return signifies more than another MCU cameo but can extend into multiple projects in a brand-new story arc for the character, unconstrained by the restrictions that normally plague solitary television series. Indeed, Frank Castle’s return in Daredevil: Born Againcould signify a new era for the Punisher in the MCU.
