Christopher Lloyd, a shining star and staple in culture and childhood-defining classics like the Back to the Future franchise and the Addams Family movies, will be lending his comforting charm and trademark charisma to Spirit Halloween, a film about the spooktastic store, serving all our most urgent spooky season needs since 1983! First, Lloyd is confirmed for The Mandalorian season 3, and now this? Times couldn’t be any better. The man behind Doc Brown, beloved Uncle Fester, and the criminally underrated Al in the movie Angels in the Outfield, will be headlining the film alongside Rachael Leigh Cook, star of the signature ’90s rom-com She’s All That and The Babysitter’s Club.

MOVIEWEB VIDEO OF THE DAY

It is difficult to state just how big a deal this movie is for those of us who have a personal, nostalgic, deeply emotional connection to Spirit Halloween the store, which, let’s face it, is most of us. Halloween, Día de los Muertos, or their equivalents in various areas of the globe, is the holiday for much of the population with deep communal significance. There is no shortage of movies that aid us in annually upping the spookiness, whether for fun or for urging spiritual caution. Spirit Halloween is the commercial hotspot for us to celebrate our love of all things Halloweeny, creepy, and festively suggestive. Bringing those two things together? We cannot wait to see what this film has in store.

Halloween fans and ardent Spirit Halloween patrons of all ages are sure to check it out once released. Here is everything we know and expect to see from this spooky flick!

Spirit Halloween: The Plot

Other than fun Halloween costumes, party supplies, props, and pretty much anything else you can think of to make your Halloween the spooktacular event that it deserves to be, what is Spirit Halloween the movie going to be about? So far, it is being marketed as a family and kid-friendly film. Of course, particularly in recent ages, that hasn’t stopped the adult population from indulging in some of their favorite, recently revived franchises or new works celebrating beloved childhood commodities or traditions.

The synopsis for Spirit Halloween is as follows:

“When a new Spirit Halloween store appears in a deserted strip mall, three middle-school friends who think they’ve outgrown trick-or-treating make a dare to spend the night locked inside the store Halloween night,” reads the logline. “But they soon find out that the store is haunted by an angry evil spirit who has possessed the creepy animatronic characters. The kids embark on a thrilling and spooky adventure in order to survive the night and avoid becoming possessed themselves.”

While seemingly drawing inspiration from projects such as Five Nights at Freddy’s, who hasn’t fantasized about being trapped in a Spirit Halloween? And who doesn’t love its creepy animatronic creatures and ghouls, waiting to surprise unsuspecting shoppers the second you set foot in the store?

Spirit Halloween: The Cast

Spirit Halloween will star Christopher Lloyd, Rachael Leigh Cook, Brad Carter (Ozark, Yellowstone), and Marla Gibbs (Days of Our Lives, Young Sheldon). The younger cast of tweens and kids includes Marissa Reyes (Raven’s Home) as Kate, Dylan Martin Frankel (Life & Beth, Raven’s Home), Jaiden J. Smith (Two Sentence Horror Stories, Blue Bloods), Billie Roy as Joanie, and Donovan Colan (Moonshine, Chapelwaite) as Jake.

Spirit Halloween: A New Halloween Staple?

According to reports, the film has already wrapped production. There is nothing to stop us now from racing to the theater in October! The film is directed by David Poag, for whom Spirit Halloween the movie will be his feature directorial debut, and is written by Billie Bates. While being produced by Spirit Halloween itself, it will also have the producing labels of the relatively smaller Strike Back Studios and Hideout Pictures, which boast a fun and suggestive roster of provocative and humorous films and pieces.

The above doesn’t tell us a ton about what to expect from Spirit Halloween: The Movie, and that’s probably a good thing. The collaborators in this project pave the way for us to be surprised and delighted by this celebration of the stirring and startling Halloween of our childhoods, and based on their previous work, these artists certainly seem like the folks who will deliver. Ultimately, we want to see some cool costumes and setups coming to life. We expect Christopher Lloyd to do the amazing thing that he does every now and then, where he defines our childhoods (and adulthoods) and raises our expectations to high levels. We can’t wait to see this movie when it comes out in October, and we hope that it becomes a Halloween staple for the ages! We also hope we get to buy costumes from the movie at Spirit Halloween the store when they reopen for the spooky season later this summer.
