Andor star, Diego Luna, teased a new planet coming to the latest Star Wars television series. Set five years before the events of Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope, the science-fiction show follows Cassian Andor (Luna) as he rises in the ranks of a budding rebellion against the tyrannical Galactic Empire. Along with Luna, Andor sees the return of other Rogue One: A Star Wars Story stars such as Genevieve O’Reilly as senator Mon Mothma and Forest Whitaker as Clone Wars veteran and leader of a militant resistance group, Saw Gerrera.
Andor writer and creator, Tony Gilroy, has previously stated that he wants to tell a tale rarely seen in the long-running science-fiction fantasy franchise. The show deals with the gray areas of the universe, far away from the franchise’s noble Jedi Knights and Dark Lords of the Sith. Luna shared that Andor is a human story that strays from the fantastical elements Star Wars is known for having. Instead, it focuses on aspects of the lore that fans have never seen, which will introduce interesting new characters in strange new worlds.
In a recent interview with EW, Luna teased a new planet coming to Andor season 1. While Star Wars has a history of returning to planets already seen in past movies and shows, Andor will expand the universe even farther. Luna also revealed that the show will constantly evolve, leaving the narrative with a high level of momentum and relatively unpredictable. Read what the actor said below:
Oh, man. I would say a lot of water and a lot of green. The beauty of this show is that every time you think you know what to expect, what’s going to happen, what characters are around, what the tone is also, the series will transform, will evolve and go somewhere else. And it’s this format that allows us to do that. You are about to meet a lot of new characters. You are about to explore a planet you didn’t know existed.
And that’s going to keep happening. That’s going to keep happening, which is the beauty again, not just of this format, but of this project that took that risk of moving forward. The story of Cassian has to move forward. It’s not stationary, it’s about that journey, that transforming journey. So be open for new stuff to come.
Based on Luna’s comments, one of the prominent new planets featured later in season 1 will be covered in water and vegetation. However, without additional details, the world’s specific biome remains a mystery. The planet may be similar to Maz Kanata’s planet Takodana, a world filled with lakes, plains, and forests. Or the upcoming planet may also be similar to Dagobah, a dank swamp world covered in thick jungles and dark lagoons that Jedi Master Yoda called home until his death in Episode VI – Return of the Jedi.
With Gilroy aiming to craft a Star Wars story unlike audiences have previously seen, the new television series will likely be stuffed with new locales and a wide cast of brand-new characters. The first three episodes have already introduced a number of new planets including Cassian’s original forested home world Kenari, and his new home of Ferrix, a drab industrial desert planet filled with working-class citizens under the thumb of the Corporate Sector Authority. With Cassian departing his world with the mysterious Luthen Rael (Stellan Skarsgård), audiences are set to see entirely new parts of the Star Wars universe as Andor continues.
