Matt Murdock, a.k.a. Daredevil, has finally gotten his just due in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with his superhero alter-ego appearing in the eighth episode of She-Hulk: Attorney at Law. With his own Disney+ series, Daredevil: Born Again set to debut in 2024, the Man Without Fear is an official part of MCU canon.
Daredevil’s introduction to the MCU now makes it possible for the superhero vigilante to interact with all kinds of the franchise’s iconic characters–including its villains. While some MCU villains would certainly overpower the Man Without Fear, there are others that he would easily beat in a brawl.
Batroc The Leaper
Portrayed by mixed martial artist Georges St-Pierre, Batroc the Leaper makes his first appearance in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, where he faces the eponymous superhero in a one-on-one fight. After spending years in prison, Batroc returns in the Disney+ series The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, where he meets his apparent end at the hands of the Power Broker.
Though Batroc was able to hold his own in a fight with Captain America for a short while, he still inevitably was beaten in a one-on-one duel. In fact, it would seem to be Batroc’s destiny to lose every fight he begins, with Daredevil proving no exception to this rule.
Yellowjacket
Darren Cross becomes the supervillain known as the Yellowjacket during the events of Ant-Man. With the power to shrink to a miniscule size, he proves to be a formidable foe to the titular superhero. Cross is eventually defeated when his suit malfunctions and causes him to go sub-atomic.
Though Cross would certainly stand a chance against Daredevil for a short while, it wouldn’t be long before Matt’s enhanced hearing tuned in to his small enemy’s movement pattern. Once he was able to locate his opponent, it wouldn’t be long before Daredevil bested him in a fight.
John Walker
Though John Walker eventually reformed to fall into the “morally grey antihero” archetype, he spent much of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier‘s six episodes falling squarely into the villain role. After growing unstable from the super-soldier serum he had secretly ingested, Walker specifically sought his own fame and glory, tarnishing the mantle of Captain America.
Despite having a severe deficit of strength, Daredevil is far more level-headed than Walker, who rarely went into a fight with a set strategy. So long as he could continuously dodge Walker’s heavy blows, Matt Murdock could bring his tougher opponent down.
Whiplash
Mickey Rourke’s Anton Vanko, also known as Whiplash, is the primary villain of Iron Man 2. Though often forgotten by MCU fans, Vanko was surprisingly powerful, his ARC-reactor technology to power his dual whips, which nearly brought Iron Man down during their first fight.
Though Vanko wields two powerful weapons, accuracy is extremely important with weapons so long and unmanageable. Hitting a speedy enemy like Daredevil would prove difficult for the slower-moving villain, who would inevitably find himself on the receiving end of the superhero’s signature smackdown.
Taskmaster
The Taskmaster makes her debut in the 2021 film Black Widow, where she shows off her mimicking abilities against the eponymous Avenger. When the Red Room agent is taken down, she still manages to live to fight another day, evidently finding herself recruited for the mysterious Thunderbolts project.
Despite Taskmaster’s incredible ability to mirror any fighting style she witnesses, her own skills lack imagination and ingenuity. Her comic book counterpart has himself faced Daredevil on numerous occasions and has often lost for this very reason. While she would certainly stand a chance against Matt Murdock’s Man Without Fear, it wouldn’t be long before he bested her in combat.
Crossbones
Former S.H.I.E.L.D. agent Brock Rumlow found himself horribly disfigured in a battle with Sam Wilson during the Triskellion’s collapse, causing him to later adopt the moniker Crossbones in his continued villainy. He faces off against the Avengers once more during the first act of Captain America: Civil War, when he meets his grisly demise in an explosion.
Crossbones was certainly a skilled fighter, but he relied far too heavily on his own strength to pose any real threat to a seasoned fighter like Daredevil, who has been trained against most fighting styles, including Rumlow’s berserker methods. Just as he was bested by Wilson and Rogers, Crossbones would find himself facing similar odds against Murdock.
Mysterio
Jake Gyllenhaal’s Quentin Beck, who posed as the multiversal superhero Mysterio, faced off against Spider-Man during the events of Spider-Man: Far From Home, using Stark Tech drones to craft intricate illusions that threw his enemy off and kept him on his toes. It is only after Spider-Man learns to trust his Spidey-sense that Beck is defeated once and for all.
While Mysterio’s drones would work well on someone who uses their eyes as their primary sense, he would have no such luck with Daredevil. Having lost his sight in an accident at a young age, Daredevil has learned to operate using his other senses and would have no trouble defending himself against Mysterio’s illusions, defeating him in a matter of moments.
The Vulture
Michael Keaton’s Adrian Toomes, a.k.a. the Vulture, is the primary antagonist of Spider-Man: Homecoming, proving himself to be one of the Wall-crawler’s greatest enemies. He uses a high-tech suit to steal various bits of alien technology to sell on the black market–until Spider-Man foils his operation and sends him to prison.
Though the Vulture’s ability to fly would cause Daredevil a bit of a headache, the supervillain would need to get up close and personal with the vigilante superhero in order to best him in a fight, which would certainly spell his doom. At the end of the day, Toomes relied more on gimmicks than actual fighting skill, which would spell his easy defeat at the hands of Matt Murdock.
Loki
For the most part, Tim Hiddleston’s Loki is a fan-favorite villain, who has haunted the superheroes of the MCU in such titles as Thor, The Avengers, and Thor: The Dark World. Though Loki meets his end during Thanos’s conquest, an alternate-reality version of the god of mischief continues to explore the multiverse in his own self-titled Disney+ series.
Though Loki has the powers of a Norse god on his side, he is nowhere near as powerful as his adoptive father or brother. In fact, the god of mischief most commonly relies on his illusions to get him through a fight and, though skilled with a dagger, he is not nearly fast enough to combat the speed and stamina of Daredevil, who would be unfazed by his many image castings.
Killmonger
Michael B. Jordan’s Killmonger was a standout character in an already terrific film in 2018’s Black Panther. Seeking to use Wakanda’s resources in other parts of the world, Killmonger initiated a violent takeover of the country, seizing a Black Panther suit before being defeated by his cousin, the rightful King T’Challa.
Though Killmonger was himself a fierce fighter, he relied too heavily on the technology available to him, causing his own death at the end of Black Panther. When faced against an opponent who relies very little on technology or other gadgets, the supervillain wouldn’t stand much of a chance at all.
